Yoga and Strength Training

Lets chat about Yoga and Strength Training, and WHY we need BOTH! As we hit our mid-life (YAY if you have made it to mid-life, what a GIFT!) I have been digging into these subjects for some time.

Strength training and yoga share several key similarities that will contribute to overall fitness and well-being (and mental health). Both practices use specific techniques, encouraging body awareness and control, which helps prevent injuries (lets think lower back and hips). They also promote mindfulness, allowing teachers to help you connect your bodies and breath, allowing a sense of focus and concentration. Both strength training and yoga can (and will) enhance muscle strength and flexibility, leading to improved physical health and a greater range of motion, and so many tools for your body tool box. When you start to feel a certain body part get crabby, thanks to yoga, you will have lots of stretches to choose from!

Yoga is a type of bodyweight training, and working against just your body weight as resistance can be enough of a challenge to stimulate some muscle growth. As women we start to lose muscle at the age of 30. Grab a set of weights, jump onto my yoga library, and lets have fun combing strength training and yoga!
